Understanding Kendall County Releases
Release from the Kendall County Detention Center means one local booking has ended. It does not always mean the person entered the community. A bond release, sentence completion, dismissal, probation order, transfer, and death can all remove a person from ordinary jail custody, yet each has a different record trail. The official release entry should be tied to the booking number and SO number. A court cause number then connects that jail event to the criminal case.
A community release may leave a pending case or a supervision duty in place. Parole is conditional release from a TDCJ sentence. Mandatory supervision is another form of state supervision governed by eligibility rules and Board review. Probation, formally called community supervision in Texas, is ordered by a court and managed locally by the Kendall County CSCD. Discharge means the sentence or supervision term has ended. A transfer means a new custodian took charge. These terms should not be treated as synonyms.
- Time served
- Custody ends after credited confinement satisfies the applicable order.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another authority to assume custody.
- Discharge
- The agency records the sentence or supervision obligation as ended.
- Expunction
- A court-ordered process that can require covered records to be removed or restricted under Texas law.
Kendall County Release Outcomes
The release reason cannot safely be inferred from a bond figure or roster disappearance. The KCSO public entry gives valuable context, but the underlying release sheet, bond instrument, signed court order, or receiving-agency intake establishes what happened. One charge may end while another hold continues.
| Outcome | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or personal bond | Pretrial jail custody ends under stated terms; the case continues. | Release sheet, bond instrument, and court docket |
| Time served or sentence end | Credited jail time satisfies the order. | Signed judgment, jail-credit calculation, and release sheet |
| Probation | The court orders community supervision outside jail. | Judgment and Kendall CSCD record |
| Parole or mandatory supervision | TDCJ confinement ends while a state sentence continues under supervision. | TDCJ history, BPP status, and release certificate |
| Transfer | Another county, TDCJ, USMS, BOP, ICE, or another authority assumes custody. | KCSO disposition and receiving-system intake |
| Dismissal or acquittal | A charge ends, though another cause or hold may remain. | Signed disposition plus all active booking causes |
Kendall County Release Record Fields
The official rolling roster displays enough data to identify an event, but not every field needed for final proof. It includes the person's name, booking photograph, SO number, booking number, release date, booking date and time, charges, bond information, associated agency, and a profile link. The observed public release date is a date, not an exact time. Nor does a listed bond amount prove that bond caused release.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| SO and booking numbers | The sheriff identity and specific jail episode |
| Booking date and time | When local intake was recorded |
| Release date | The calendar date this booking left KCSO custody |
| Charges and agency | Why the booking arose and the originating or bond agency shown |
| Bond amount or status | Bond context, not proof of the release mechanism |
| Release time and disposition | Fields to request from the underlying release sheet |
| Receiving agency | Whether departure was a transfer rather than community release |
The strongest packet joins several records: the roster profile saved with its access time, the KCSO booking and release sheet, the signed court order or judgment, and any matching intake by a new custodian. Full name alone is weak. Match the booking number, SO number, birth date when lawfully available, court cause, and event dates.
Request Kendall County Release Records
The KCSO Open Record Request page is the local route after the rolling display expires or when an exact time and disposition are needed. Requests must be written. KCSO says approved information is generally available in one to seven days and a denial notice is provided within ten days. That local statement is not a promise that every Texas agency completes every request within ten business days.
- Identify the person, SO number, booking number, and approximate booking date.
- Ask for the booking sheet and release sheet, including release date, exact time, disposition or reason, and receiving agency.
- Request the booking photo only if needed, and prefer electronic copies.
- Ask for an itemized estimate before costs exceed a stated limit. No universal local flat fee was verified.
- Compare the response with the signed case order and any receiving-agency record.

Texas agencies may redact protected data or withhold material under an applicable exception. A narrow request avoids medical data, victim information, Social Security numbers, and other confidential fields. If KCSO needs clarification, a prompt and precise reply keeps the request moving.
Texas Release Record Access Rules
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 supplies the public-information framework. It calls for prompt production within a reasonable time and permits cost estimates. Section 552.108 can protect specified law-enforcement information, while subsection (c) preserves basic information about an arrested person, arrest, or crime. Other confidentiality laws still control juvenile data, protected identifiers, and records covered by court orders.
The live 48-hour display is not the sheriff's full retention schedule. A record may remain with KCSO and the clerk after it leaves public view. An order of nondisclosure restricts public disclosure of covered history but does not mean every record was destroyed. A final expunction order under Chapter 55A has broader effects for records it covers. If a prior record is no longer public, do not try to reconstruct it.
Release and Expunction Rights Notice
Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A now requires the person responsible for release or discharge after arrest to provide a written explanation of expunction rights and a copy of the chapter. The handoff is informative, not a finding that the person qualifies. Eligibility turns on the exact case history and statutory ground.
A final order changes how covered agencies and publishers may maintain or disseminate records. Kendall County procedures can require identifying the magistrate tied to the arrest file, and local notice costs may depend on whether an agency accepts email. Nondisclosure follows a separate process. A vanished listing should be described only as not publicly located.
Did Bond Cause the Kendall Release?
KCSO publishes local bail bond information, while its released roster shows bond and agency fields. Those two facts help with research but do not prove that a displayed sum was paid or that bond caused release. Only the bond transaction, release disposition, or court record establishes the mechanism. A person released on bond still has a pending case unless the court record says otherwise.
Local rules distinguish cash, surety, and personal bonds. KCSO says attorney bonds are not accepted. It also lists bond-acceptance blackouts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cash bonds and fines require the exact amount by money order or cashier's check; the page rejects wire and internet methods. Surety paperwork carries a $15 fee, capped at two such fees per person per jailing. These are processing rules, not promised release times.
Find Released Kendall County Inmates
Start with the last known custodian. The search path for KCDC is not the path for TDCJ, BOP, or ICE. A person on the Current roster remains in that Kendall booking. A person absent from Current and Released has an unknown result, since the public release window may have closed or a transfer may be processing.
- Open the official Kendall released view for a booking from roughly the last two days. Search first or last name, then match identifiers.
- Compare Current only to test whether the booking remains active. Never turn absence into proof.
- Call KCSO and ask whether the booking was released, transferred, or remains held, and which record gives the time and disposition.
- Search the Kendall judicial portal and obtain the signed judgment or order from the correct clerk.
- For a state sentence, use TDCJ current search, then email, telephone, PIA, and parole channels for former custody.
- Check IVSS for a second event signal, then verify an alert with the source agency.
- Escalate federal or immigration custody to BOP, USMS/court, or ICE as appropriate.
The dedicated Jail Releases: 24 Hours page explains why Kendall's actual feed cannot prove an exact 24-hour interval, and Projected Release separates planned TDCJ dates from an accomplished departure.
TDCJ Search After Kendall County Release
The TDCJ Online Inmate Search includes only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. It is not a former-prisoner archive. TDCJ warns that the data is updated on working days and is at least 24 hours old. Presence can confirm state custody after a Kendall transfer. Absence cannot confirm discharge.
| Search field | Use |
|---|---|
| Last and first name | Exact last name plus at least a first initial |
| TDCJ number | Seven-digit state corrections identifier |
| SID | Texas State Identification number |
| Gender and race | Optional filters to narrow similar names |
Open the matching detail and compare the unit, offense, sentence, projected release date, parole eligibility, and any scheduled release date or location. A projected date is a calculation, not proof of departure. A scheduled date is a later operational plan and may still change.
The official search screen shows the current-custody scope and available identifiers. Review the source search instructions before interpreting a no-result.
The screen's limitation is decisive: a former TDCJ record requires a different channel.
Use the TDCJ offender-information email route with full name and TDCJ number, or birth date or approximate age plus county of conviction. The no-charge service can return incarceration history and projected date but excludes photographs. A release certificate, discharge record, or broader history belongs in a formal TDCJ Public Information Act request.
Search Kendall County Recent Releases
KCSO's roster chooser promises a rolling “48 Hour Release” view. That is unusually useful, but it is neither a separate 24-hour feed nor a 72-hour archive. The release field observed shows a date without an exact time. Ask KCSO for the release timestamp when a precise elapsed window matters.
The chooser clearly separates current inmates from recent releases.
That choice prevents a common error: the Current list and Released list answer different custody questions.
The official Released roster can sort and search by name or date and links to profiles. Its page code attempts to refresh the browser every five minutes, but that is not a promise that the jail database updates on the same cadence. Record the access time and booking number before the entry rolls away.
Kendall Courts Preserve Release Context
The sheriff feed is brief, while court records can persist. Use the Kendall judicial records search to match the defendant, cause number, court, charge, and docket events. District Clerk records are the main route for felony and district matters. County Clerk records cover applicable county-level misdemeanors. Boerne Municipal Court covers its limited fine-only and municipal jurisdiction.
A docket label is an index, not always the signed instrument. Request the judgment, dismissal, commitment, probation discharge, or other order when its exact effect matters. The court record and jail record answer separate questions. Someone can bond out while a case remains pending, or one cause can be dismissed while another hold continues.
Kendall County Release Supervision Search
State parole and local probation must be checked separately. TDCJ Parole Division and the Board of Pardons and Paroles handle parole and mandatory supervision. The Kendall County Community Supervision and Corrections Department handles court-ordered probation. A parole approval is not physical release because programming, a release plan, detainers, and a records audit may remain.
For parole, match the TDCJ or SID number and ask for current status, release or discharge date, and warrant status through official channels. For probation, read the judgment and later docket entries for modification, revocation, early discharge, or completion. No public Kendall probationer name search was found. The full distinction and the San Antonio-area state office route appear under Probation & Parole.
Kendall County Release Alerts
Texas replaced county VINE/VINELink with IVSS-Counties in 2025. Search by full or partial name, DOC ID, SID, jail ID, or permanent booking number. The portal can report custody or supervision events and supports call, text, and email alerts. It also warns that its agency-fed data may be late or incomplete and that a person no longer in custody may not appear. An alert should be verified with KCSO or the named agency. Current instructions are detailed under VINELink Inmate Search.
For a federal sentence, the BOP Inmate Locator can retain former results, commonly from 1982 forward. “Released” or “Not in BOP custody” speaks only to BOP custody. It does not rule out supervised release, USMS, state, or immigration custody. USMS prisoners may be held in local beds, but USMS has no matching public historical released-person locator.
Was the Kendall Release an ICE Transfer?
No ICE detention facility or county contract was confirmed in Kendall County, yet an ICE detainer remains a necessary transfer check. A person may leave KCDC and enter federal civil immigration custody. That is an interagency transfer until community release is independently established.
Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator with an A-number and country of birth or the biographical fields. Recent intake can lag, the tool is not historical, and protected records may not appear. If a reported transfer is unresolved, use the ICE ERO detention-information contact. Absence proves neither immigration release nor removal.
Why Kendall Releases Become TDCJ Transfers
KCSO describes the Kendall County Detention Center as a 153-bed facility staffed across four shifts. It holds misdemeanor and felony defendants and says jail sentences are typically up to one year. People serving longer terms move to TDCJ or a state-jail facility. That local distinction explains why a name can leave the county roster without entering the community.
Match the county release disposition and receiving agency to the eventual TDCJ intake and number. State intake may not appear at once. A later TDCJ no-result also needs care because the online locator excludes former prisoners. Use historical information, parole status, and the sentencing court to close the gap.
Kendall County Release Status by System
Each system proves a narrow fact. Use the row that matches the last known custodian, then seek an affirmative event rather than relying on absence.
| System | What a match can show | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| KCSO Current | Active Kendall jail booking | No historical release answer |
| KCSO Released | Release date for a booking in the rolling window | About 48 hours; no observed exact time |
| KCSO records | Release time, disposition, and receiving agency when releasable | Requires a written request for older detail |
| TDCJ online | Current state incarceration and planned dates | Excludes former prisoners |
| IVSS | Agency-fed custody, supervision, and alert events | Not an official record; former people may vanish |
| BOP | Current and many former federal results | BOP status does not resolve all other custody |
| ICE ODLS | Current covered immigration detention | Not a release archive and may lag |
Property After a Kendall Release
KCSO maintains a dedicated Inmate Personal Property page. Pickup is listed for Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except county holidays. A confined person must complete a release form naming the recipient, and the recipient must show government-issued identification. The page says foreign-issued identification is not accepted.
Call before traveling. Confirm the booking, named authorization, acceptable ID, pickup point, hours, and whether any property remains. The research found no safe universal post-release pickup deadline. It does state that property unable to accompany a transferred person may be destroyed within 72 hours if pickup is not arranged. A released person without suitable clothing receives indigent clothing. Record errors should be sent to KCSO with the booking number and a supporting court order.
Kendall County Release Facilities
The eight local and serving channels below do not share one locator. KCDC is the primary jail. Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch arrests booked there follow the KCSO record. TDCJ, parole, probation, federal, and immigration systems each maintain their own custody or supervision trail.
- Kendall County Detention Center
- Boerne Police Department holding/arrest channel
- Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department holding/arrest channel
- Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Correctional Institutions Division
- TDCJ Parole Division, Region IV / San Antonio-area district office
- Kendall County Community Supervision and Corrections Department
- Federal Bureau of Prisons
- ICE Online Detainee Locator / Enforcement and Removal Operations
A transfer must be followed to the receiving system. A local arrest agency field helps identify who initiated a Kendall booking, but the county jail remains the release custodian for that booking.
